Happy New Year! We are ringing in 2017 with a new mitten pattern to get you through the chilly January days and nights ahead.
January's mitten features Latvian inspired color work, perfect for a little post-holiday selfish knitting. After the hectic holiday season it's always nice to work on something that doesn't require rushing through to the end, and these are mittens you can really sink your teeth into.
The January Mitten cuff is worked as a folded hem with picot edge. The hem is “sewn” to the inside using the sew-as-you-go method. We'll be posting a tutorial on this nifty technique that saves you from having to seam the cuff hem after your mittens are done. This is a technique that I use often, as I am one of those people who likes to be finished with a project at the end of the knitting part.
SPECIFICATIONS
YARN: The Fibre Co. Cumbria Fingering (60% merino wool, 30% masham wool, 10% mohair; 328 yds/100g skein): windermere (MC), scafell pike (CC), 1 skein each.
GAUGE: 28 sts + 32 rnds = 4” (10 cm) in colorwork pattern on larger needles, after blocking.
NEEDLES: 1 – set US 1 (2.25 mm) dpns. 1 – set US 2 (2.75 mm) dpns.
NOTIONS: Tapestry needle, stitch marker, stitch holder or waste yarn.
SIZE: 11.25” (28.5 cm) total length, 8” (20.25 cm) circumference.
SKILLS: Colorwork from charts, sew as you go join.
