For this technique, we have a new video tutorial showing a quick and safe way to process the stitches without having to take them off the needles or use a cable needle.
Right Cross (C2R or C1/1R)
STEP 1 / Knit into the front of the second stitch on the left hand needle.STEP 2 / Knit into the front of the first stitch on the left hand needle.
STEP 3 / Pull both stitches off together.
Left Cross (C2L or C1/1L)
STEP 1 / Insert the needle from back to front in between the first and second stitch on the left hand needle. Knit into the front of the second stitch on the left hand needle. Slip the needle back through the two stitches.STEP 2 / Knit into the front of the first stitch on the needle.
STEP 3 / Pull both stitches off together.
NOTE: Many of the cables in the October Mitten are C2RP or C2LP crosses. It is possible to work the C2RP by purling the stitch in Step 2, but it is much harder to do so with the left cross. You can utilize this technique and opt to not do a purl stitch in the cable (it will most likely be hidden behind the cross), or cable as you normally would, either without a cable needle, or with, depending on your preference, for the C2LP.
